Hot Saw

Stock Saw

In the hot saw event, each participant attempts to cut a 19-inch thick log as quickly as they can. The participant starts with their hand placed on the cutting log. At the signal the participant must start the hot saw and make three cuts to the log. The participant cannot cut more than 6-inches total from the log.

In this event, the contestants start with both of their hands placed on the cutting log with their saws idling on the deck. A STIHL® MS 660 Magnum chain saw will be used to make two cuts from a 16-inch white pine log. The two cuts cannot exceed the first 4-inches of the log.

UnderHand Chop

Standing Chop

In the underhand chop, the competitors chop a 12-inch to 14-inch log while standing on top of it. At the sound of the gun, each competitor begins chopping the log. Before chopping through the log, the competitor must turn around on the log and finish the cut from the other side.

In the standing block chop event, competitors attempt to chop a 12-inch to 14-inch log of white pine in two as quickly as they can. The competitors must finish chopping the block on the opposite side from which they started.

Single Buck Saw

Springboard

In the single buck saw event, competitors cut through an 18-inch to 20-inch white pine log using a single man cross cut saw. Competitors may have a helper present to place a wedge in the log and keep the saw lubricated.

In this event, participants must ascend a nine-foot tree truck using spring boards. Once at the top of the tree, the participants must chop through a 12-inch block of wood standing atop a spring board. The block of wood must be chopped from both sides.

Speed Climb

Boom Run

In the speed climb event, contestants climb to the top of a tree as fast as they can. Once at the top, the contestants quickly slide down the tree. Once the contestant reaches the bottom of the tree the clock is stopped. To prevent injuries from falling, a crash pad is placed at the bottom of each tree.

In the boom run, competitors begin on a platform. At the signal, the competitors run as quickly as they can across six logs floating in a pool of water. Once on the other platform, they must turn around and come back across the floating logs. The logs vary in length and diameter.
